M Factor Philosophy 101:
To be successful you must do the things others are unable or unwilling to do.
Top 12 Excuses for not being in shape
- I already know how to workout. Why do I need a trainer?
- I am not an athlete. Why should I train like one?
- It is too hard. I don't like working out. What can I do?
- It is too expensive. Can't I just join a gym?
- I don't have any equipment. What should I get?
- I don't have time. How can I make time for this?
- I am too far out of shape. What can I expect?
- I have a fear of being injured. Isn't it better not to chance it?
- I am self-conscious. Let me lose a few pounds, then I will work out.
- I just want to play my sport, I don't want to exercise. What can it do for me anyway?
- I just want to eat better.
- I have old injuries and can't train.
I already know how to workout.
In all my years of training clients I have found that the majority of people who say they know how to exercise effectively mean the following:
- They try to remember what they did in high school.
- They copy a routine in the latest fitness magazine.
- They look at someone who looks like they know what they are doing and copy them.
Now I am not saying that that is bad but if they are not giving you the results you want, think about learning from a professional trainer.
I am not an athlete.
No, you are an athlete. Maybe you are not famous but I bet you perform athletic feats all the time. Bending over to pick up the kids, chasing after them, lifting, sitting, walking, working. These all entail a level of conditioning.
- Ever know someone who threw out their back shoveling snow?
- Ever sprain your back picking something up?
- Ever pull a muscle doing something simple?
- Are you ever winded walking up a flight of stairs?
The fact is that you need your body to move correctly and safely whether it is during an athletic event or just walking around your house. That is M Factor fitness.
It is too hard.
Yes. My workouts are hard. My clients end up sweating and probably curse me under their breath but that is part of it. We are teaching your body to fix itself and move properly and to lift weight properly. Expect some aches and pains at first but look at it this way. A little pain now will prevent a lot of pain in the future.
Believe me on this. I will adjust your workouts so that they are challenging but doable. I will never do anything to injure you and if the workout is too much for you, I will lower the intensity. We all start at different places and I respect that.
After a while working out will become second nature to you and you will laugh about some of the preconceptions you had.
It is too expensive.
In Home Personal Training is expensive. As trainers go, I am not the the most expensive, nor am I the cheapest, just the best. That is why try offer a couple very affordable programs that are extremely effective and affordable.
What about this:
- Pay Month to Month. I now accept Visa and Mastercard through PayPal
- You are never locked into any time frame.
- Try my winter special: 3 one hour sessions for $156.
I don't have any equipment.
If you have a body, that is all we need. Bodyweight exercises are among the most effective exercises there are. I guarantee you will be amazed by what we can do. There are also a number of inexpensive items I bring with me to train clients that are also very effective.
In fact, look at gymnasts, divers, ballet, swimmers, figure skaters. They all train in their respective sports with a minimum of equipment.
The P90X is one of the mostpopular programs I teach and it requires a bare minimum of equipment.
I don't have time.
My workouts are one hour. I am going to need you to find 30 minutes a couple times a week to do cardio. Let's be honest, if you can't find that in your schedule you are making excuses.
I am too far out of shape
As long as your Doctor says it is ok, we can fix that. Don't look at working out as an all or nothing proposition. If I am running an 8 minute mile and you are walking at a 20 minute mile pace, what does that mean? Nothing. What is important is that we are both giving an optimum effort and pushing ourselves. Most people can get in really good shape in 12 weeks. If it takes you 20 or 30 weeks who cares? The idea is that you are doing something good for you.
I have a fear of being injured.
Everyone has a fear of being injured. I think most people have a fear of pain and all the other emotions that sometimes go along with that, shame, embarrassment, feeling of inferiority, perhaps anger at the trainer for pushing them too hard.
This is natural and is based on fact. Your body is intuitively very smart. We just forget how to operate it sometimes. Add in a trainer who has no idea what he is doing and that is a recipe for disaster. I see trainers at gyms all the time putting all their clients through the same routine or dangerous routines without any regard to their safety.
My kind of training is the safest there is. In fact the whole idea of M Factor training is to prevent injuries from happening.
I am self-conscious
Everyone is self-conscious to some degree. It is a natural emotion to feel when you are confronted with something new. That fear can prevent you from even trying. If you are out of shape, sometimes you just don't want to have other people looking at you. That is why I train people in their homes where they have privacy.
I just want to play my sport, I don't want to exercise.
- If you were a golfer, what would an extra 20 yards on your drive mean to you?
- What if you could play tennis and still be fresh for the third set?
- How much more energy would you have if didn't have to carry around that extra 20 pounds of fat?
- Would you like to shave minutes of your 5K time and have less downtime due to injuries?
- How would you like to be first team instead of benchwarmer?
I know I should eat better.
Proper nutrition is vital, yet there is so much bad information out there.
I can show you:
- How to lose fat on a regular basis.
- Lose weight without ever going hungry.
- Increase your stamina and energy.
- Eat better, look better and feel better without significantly changing what you eat.
I have old injuries and can't train.
Why don't we work on fixing those injuries so you can train? I have found that in most cases, old aches and pains can be eliminated through proper exercise. I can imporve your range of motion, strength and overall quality of life.
